With 20 minutes to go for the championship, both teams were wanting to get some points on the board. However, when the bell sounded, the score at the end of regulation was 0-0. For the 2nd time in Christian Sports Flag Football History, it would take overtime to determine the Upper Rec Champions. Sutton's squad got the ball first in overtime, picked up 10 yards on first down and then did not pick up another yard. The Reel Deel offense picked up 6 yards on first down and nothing on 2nd or 3rd down. On 4th down, The Reel Deel needed 5 yards for the championship. However, Sutton's Squad MVP John Sutton knocked down the pass to secure the first Christian Sports Upper Recreational Championship for Sutton's Squad. The Tigers got the ball, marched down the field and scored when QB Matt Thrasher hit his Nephew, Jessie for the first score of the game. Divine, not going to be intimidated, answered right back when Cristen Marsh caught a deep pass, pitched it back to DeVonna who ran it in for a 7 point Girl TD. Late in the first half Jessie proved he could catch the ball on offense and defense when he intercepted a David Keirsey pass at the goal line. The Tigers built a 20-8 second half lead but Divine proved they could intercept the ball as well. After their interception they mounted their own drive scoring another girl 7 point TD and cutting the lead to 25-15. The Tigers offense picked up a few first downs to kill the clock and plays to end the season as the only undefeated team in the 2009 Christian Sports Fall Flag Football season...a perfect 10-0. Congratulations to the Tigers on their first Christian Sports Flag Football Championship.
